چکیده
We present an inelastic neutron scattering study of liquid and solid hydrogen carried out using the wide Angular Range Chopper Spectrometer at Oak Ridge National Laboratory. From observed dynamic structure factor, we obtained empirical estimates molecular mean-squared displacement average translational kinetic energy. find that former quantity increases with temperature, indicating a combination thermal quantum effects is important near liquid-solid phase transition, contrary to previous measurements. also energy drops dramatically on melting crystals, consequence large increase in molar volume together Heisenberg indeterminacy principle. Our results are compared Monte Carlo simulations based different model potentials. In general, there good agreement between our findings theoretical predictions Silvera-Goldman Buck

Laser cooling to the zero-point energy of motion.
The subject of laser cooling of ions and neutral atoms is currently of great experimental and theoretical interest. ' It has been applied to high-resolution spectroscopy, low-energy collisions, quantum jumps, and photon antibunching. In all cooling experiments done so far, the oscillation frequency co, of the particle in its confining well was less than the linewidth I of the cooling transition...
متن کاملReorientational motion and hydrogen-bond stretching dynamics in liquid water
The reorientational motion of the molecules in liquid water is investigated by measuring the anisotropy decay of the O±H stretching mode of HDO dissolved in D2O using femtosecond mid-infrared pump±probe spectroscopy. We observe that the anisotropy shows a non-exponential decay with an initial fast component of which the amplitude increases with increasing lengths of the O±H O hydrogen bond. The...
متن کاملA strong convergence theorem for solutions of zero point problems and fixed point problems
Zero point problems of the sum of two monotone mappings and fixed point problems of a strictly pseudocontractive mapping are investigated. A strong convergence theorem for the common solutions of the problems is established in the framework of Hilbert spaces.
متن کاملHydrogen adsorption energies on bimetallic overlayer systems at the solid-vacuum and the solid-liquid interface
Atomic hydrogen adsorption energies on bimetallic overlayer systems have been determined by periodic density functional theory calculations within the generalized gradient approximation. On the pseudomorphic Pd/Cu(111) surface, both the substrate interaction and the lattice compression of the Pd overlayer lead to smaller hydrogen binding energies. For pseudomorphic Cu/Pd(111), on the hand, the ...
